Have you tried the new Origin Protein Bar?
If you are into fitness like I am, protein is a must for you. It will become your steady companion and there is a need for it if you want to build muscle. You won’t always have access to clean and healthy protein such as lean beef or chicken. On the go you sometimes have very little choice and then you have to substitute your protein intake with a protein bar.
I am sure you all know that there are many different kinds of protein bars out there and you are spoilt for choice. Each protein bar promises to be better and healthier than the other one. They claim to include only the best ingredients and taste like no other.
If you have ever tried protein bars, you will have noticed that they all have one thing in common: their taste is terrible! I have never really found a protein bar I like, which is why I usually only use them as a last resort.
First Try: Origin Clean Protein Bar
What made the Origin Clean Protein Bar stand out was its packaging. As a designer, I must say I was really impressed by the look and feel of the Origin Clean Protein Bar! It stood out from the crowd and had an incredible feel to it. If you have a look at the picture above you can see what I mean. As a result I was inclined to buy it straight away and try it. Once I noticed that it cost a whopping 2.99 Euros, I quickly put it back to where I got it from! That is far too expensive for one protein bar!
The Taste of the unusual Protein Bar
Just by chance a colleague of mine handed me the Origin Clean Protein Bar as a gift that same week. It came in handy as I was about to make my way to the gym. Of course I had to try it immediately. I really have to be honest here and say that after the first bite, I noticed that I didn’t like the taste at all! I’m sure the guys behind the bar only have good intentions, as it really has some of the best ingredients out there. It claims to have only natural ingredients and the bars are handcrafted in small batches here in Dublin.
Nevertheless, I have to say that the taste was horrendous! The flavour I had was the chocolate mint. If I could compare it to anything it would be the taste of dry and dusty soil! That is not something you would want when biting into a protein bar. As I have mentioned before, the taste of most of the protein bars I have tried are shockingly bad. They either have a foul-like flavour which resembles that of soil or a very dry chemical taste.
The Results:
Along with the price tag of 2.99 Euros a piece and knowing the taste, I have to say that the Origin Clean Protein Bar, wouldn’t be my first choice of protein bars any time soon. Even if all the ingredients claim to be of natural origin, its taste did not convince me at all. Yes, the properties of the ingredients are important but so is the flavour!
